MISSOURI OR MISERY

“Dad; When are we going to be a family again? ...When the Angels win the Pennant”

Yes; I have been rooting for the Royals but not against the Giants. It has been arbitrary until today. Here is why I am actually rooting for the Royals tonight… Simply because they are the home team and I want those 40,000 fans lucky enough to get a ticket to have a memory that will last them for a lifetime.

It doesn’t hurt that the starting pitcher for the Royals was born and raised in Oregon. But most importantly there is a kid somewhere in the Midwest in which his dad promised him something grand; when the Royals win the Series.

GENERATION WHY

We have all heard the idiom; you can lead a horse to water but… you can’t make it drink. Why haven’t we heard of the phrase you can teach a monkey to sign but can’t make them…

The current generation has all the opportunity in the world in front of them and their fingertips. But I get the feeling when the tough questions come; they will be able to find the answer but won’t know how to ask the question.

I come from a different generation; one where we created our world, with our hands. We didn’t need to know the answer; we were still forming the questions but then again I come from Generation Y.

…We can give this generation all the tools to be great but we can’t make them successful. Monkeys have a full grasp of the English language but not once have they ever asked a question.

PLANET OF THE APES

ACROSS THE FIRE

The Family Tree
Where did you go; I must know
ACROSS THE FIRE

The day dwindles and the river fades
I hear the warmth as I gather around the Tree
The cedar snaps to the rhythm of the guitar
It’s this; that I so desire

Reminiscing, we overhear the serenades
Being lost in the moment can be the most free
Shimmering; I see we can stray but never far
I see who I am; across the fire

FIRST IMPRESSION

When was the last time you did something new. Do we like change or the idea of trying new things. Do you remember your first?
It was Sept 25, 1999 and I was at my first Ducks game. You may remember it; USC, triple overtime and the beginning of Autzen’s sell out streak. My seats; 50 yard line in the suites; first row, next to my brother.
It was Sept 25, 2010 and I was at my first Oktoberfest. It was my first trip out of the country and the 200th year anniversary of the event. 7.5 million people were there to celebrate with me.
We don’t like change but we enjoy the idea of trying new things. Sitting there looking down at the field; I knew where I was going to school, I knew that was the best game I was ever going to see. On that last day in Munich; I knew I was never going to experience something like that again. I don’t fear new things; I fear they are going to be the best thing I will do.
